The houses of Helleren, Norway

"The rock - 'Hedlaren' - forms a natural roof and shelter that has been used by people for thousands of years. The slab is large - the drop measures 10 meters at its deepest. The two houses are protected by Helleren - and that is also the reason why these houses and this Helleren provide a unique and distinctive experience.

In the middle of the 19th century, there were three houses under Helleren, but one of them was later moved. The red house that stands today was erected around 1840. We assume the blue house was built in the 18th century, but it may be older. Presumably there has been a permanent settlement (year-round settlement) below Helleren since the 17th century."
