My Norway crisis made me realize one particular thing about the systems of power. Even the most civilized ones. They have no soul. But humans do. Even those who choose to lock their souls behind their badges.

The inspiration for the haiku.
NPR’s Leila Fadel does not dwell on this, but the exchange between the condemned boy trapped above and the man on the ground, will stay with me for a long time. I’m crying, because I feel as helpless as the man trying to comfort the boy.
