The Saint-Domingue Volonteers-Chasseurs (“Les Chasseurs Volontairies de Saint Domingue” in #French) was a group of free #AfricanHaitian soldiers (with #white, #French #officers) who fought alongside the #American #ContinentalArmy after #France allied itself with the #UnitedStates, largely to spite #England.
The figure on the far left, a #drummer #boy, is #HenriChristophe, who briefly ruled #Haiti as #KingHenriI after the Haitian #slaverevolt. #King Henri was deposed after a short reign.
