The old church housing the Clan Gunn Heritage Centre & Museum at Latheron in Caithness. Clan Gunn is descended from Gunni, grandson of Sweyn Asleifsson, a hero of the Orkneyinga Saga who is often referred to as "the ultimate Viking". (2/2) Of course, you can't leave them alone now. Step 2 is talking about our #feelings and #memories. We talk about our #gardens and what we could do for the #butterflies. It's important not to explain too theoretically.
We can share good regional #seed mixtures (not the cheap ones from the shops). We visit our #heritagecentre 's traditional farmer's garden to learn about old species of #plants and could invite a specialist for a talk. Leaflets with graphics help more than complex texts.

My new project for the #embroidery club of our #heritagecentre - #stitching #moss and #lichen. I never made it before, it's an experiment for my #BiodiversityShrines.
I am collecting materials, checking them, getting ideas. The olive-green #fleece could be a good background. It's a scrap from an old shirt. There's silk #waste from machines. #upcycling #NatureArt

I am the only member of our #heritagecentre #embroidery club who doesn't join the way of perfect tiny neat #stitching. For Wednesday, I need a new project.

(2) My goal is a joint work of #art for which each woman creates her own page. The joint montage could be exhibited in our #museum rooms. And we could link it perfectly with practical knowledge from the #farmgarden of our #heritagecentre. With instructions on how to easily support native #butterfly #species. On Sundays, we have a big round table at the #heritagecentre where women show #artsandcrafts. It's a nice opportunity to meet and arouse the curiosity of #museum visitors. They can watch, ask questions, and talk.
Most of the women are specialised in #embroidery, some are doing #patchwork and I have to think of a new project that is conveniently transportable. Spoilt for choice!

Reminds me of the astonished faces when I show the small barrels in the cellar of our #heritagecentre and #museum where #wine or #beer was kept for the children. They used them to "dilute" drinking water when there were only wells to draw from. The idea was to disinfect the water. #culturalheritage
