A set of four for #internationalwomensday - what women did at the Vickers works (now BAES) Barrow-in-Furness. Making tyres for Avon, 1930s. Driving small motor trucks and operating a steam hammer in the smithy, 1940s. During 1920s, Vickers in Barrow-in-Furness formed partnership with American company to make powdered coal. Wouldn't need stoking, more akin to oil firing. Pneumosilicosis prevalent in coal miners - but seen as problem for workers later in life, 'acceptable' hazard. Idea wasn't a business success, and diesel dominated.
Original photo now in the Dock Museum archive.

Launch of a ship - SS Stratheden from Vickers yard, Barrow in Furness in 1937. Scanned image looking flat through age, brought to life with @affinitybyserif
Love detail in image, the tug, two small boats, one each side - and woman in white dress giving her hand to a man standing below her.
