Remembering Harold Arnold (Herk) Harvey (1924-96), the American film / theatre director, actor, producer and screenwriter, born in Colorado #OnThisDay. He made industrial / educational films for over 30 years but is best known for his only feature, the distinctive, eerie, latterly admired Ambrose Bierce / Bergman-inspired chiller #CarnivalOfSouls (1962), in which he also portrays the ominous "The Man" seemingly haunting motorist Candace Hilligoss.

He's much better known – albeit mostly uncredited – for his short PSAs including Halloween Safety, ruining your kids' favourite holiday since 1977, and Shake Hands With Danger (1980). You don't have to tell Three Finger Joe about taking no risks.
