@LeviKornelsen I really enjoy all sorts of convos about GM/Ref business, especially #hexcrawls and sandbox elements, tools, etc. Mechanically, I’m most likely to hop into #dnd, #odnd, #adnd, #osr, or #nsr talk as I’m most familiar with those systems. I’ve got #traveller and #pendragon on my to-play list so I definitely keep my eyes peeled for posts about those. General #worldbuilding is fun too. Always looking for topics and materials to highlight on my YouTube channel, #hexedpress.

Wow. Popular #DND YouTuber The DM Lair posted a video about #hexcrawls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7z7WUShSWo

@RPP_Cast Nice Folge wiedermal 😀 Ich bin auf den Fortlauf beider echt gespannt. Der Prep für die Drachen hat super Ergebnisse gebracht. Kreativität durch Einschränkung funktioniert halt oft.
Ich empfehle euch vielleicht mal in The Vast In The Dark zu schauen. Das ist ein kurzes #OSR Supplement mit vielen Techniken, um #hexcrawls zu gestalten. Und vom Flair passt es auch zu G Zero.
Keep on prepping!
In just over an hour, our own @hexedpress is hosting a live Q&A on YouTube, covering one of my favorite subjects in the #TTRPG space: #HexCrawls! A #HexCrawl is a campaign, or part of a campaign, focused on travel and exploration on a hex-based overland map. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmPQPEhNDus&t=0s

@escapadesrpg D’accord, sehe ich ähnlich.
Enjoy.

There are plenty of #OSR players who play retro clones of #DND, and there are #OSR players who play #5E in an #OSR style.
But does anyone play #Pathfinder2e in the #OSR style (#hexcrawls, reaction rolls, random encounters, etc)? I'm thinking of doing just that, and I'm looking for resources in that area - if there are any?

Today's #TTRPGDiscussion is about #DND:
What are your thoughts on #5E vs #OSR? What would you say are the strengths of each of them?
For those who might not know, OSR is Old School Renaissance/Revival, and is a movement where people play old version (or new clones of old versions) of DnD or similar. It typically has weaker PCs and more procedures such as #HexCrawls and #DungeonCrawl rules.
#ttrpgdiscussion #dnd #5e #osr #hexcrawls #dungeoncrawl
@chgowiz Yes, that is more a more #OSR way of doing things, I believe. But I like the skill system of #5E, which is part of the reason why I use 5E. It allows players to do things that reduce their chances of walking into traps, and I like that. Not that there's anything wrong with the #OSR approach, it's just not what I prefer in this case.
But #hexcrawls? Reaction rolls? Yeah, THOSE are things from #OSR that I truly love.
#pnpde #beyondthewall #osr #hexcrawls
@james Hmm, that's interesting. I'm very much interested in #hexcrawls, so I'll definitely look into that. Thanks!
I find myself torn on the subject of #OSR (Old School Renaissance).
I like parts of #OSR, but not all of it. I prefer to use #5e, which to many is totally counter to the idea of #OSR, and I can't say they're wrong. I want my classes to have all the fun things of #5e.
I guess what I actually like about #OSR is the procedures it has. Things like #hexcrawls, reaction rolls, letting the dice decide more things so that even me as a GM can be surprised at how things I supposedly planned turns out.
@vkfarfalle Right! I too like #OSR and that sort of mechanics (specifically #hexcrawls and dungeon crawl rules), but old style DnD (B/X, etc) leaves me wanting for "kewl powers" too. Therefore, I try to run my campaign in an #OSR style (hexcrawls, reaction rolls, random tables to keep even me as a DM surprised), but using #5E rules and content.
@martinralya Interesting! I love #hexcrawls but I haven't looked at Dungeon World at all - I suppose I should? And also Perilous Wilds, since I'm interested in this stuff...
I have the RWS Tarot deck, and I'll be using it to direct one aspect of my #solorpg campaign which I'll be blogging about once I finally get around to setting up my website... *sigh* So yeah, Tarot can be a very inspirational tool for this kind of stuff.
@kensanata I like those too, especially #hexcrawls. I've never played or prepped a megadungeon, but I think that would be very interesting.
Today's #TTRPGDiscussion:
What do you prefer in your #ttrpg: the modern, story-based campaigns, or the retro #OSR (Old School Renaissance) style with #hexcrawls, more random encounters, and less hand-holding from the DM?
In your view, what's the advantage of each style?
#ttrpgdiscussion #ttrpg #osr #hexcrawls
@Kyonshi Cool! I'm very much into #dnd and #osr as well. I'm especially fond of #hexcrawls and similar rules systems. Love that stuff.
@YUMDM Yes, I agree. I need to sit down and have a deep think about #hexcrawls - what exactly am I trying to *achieve* with them? And how can I run them, to best achieve that? Etc.
So, let's see if we can get some conversations going here in the #ttrpg space.
What's your favorite #rpg and why?
Personally, I'm fond of #dnd, mostly 5th edition but also #ose. I also really like the #osr style of play, even if I mostly do it in 5E. I like #hexcrawls and I've recently begun playing some #solorpg, using #ose.

For those of you who haven't met @hexedpress, I can really recommend his YouTube channel, especially if you're into #hexcrawls and #osr: https://www.youtube.com/c/HexedPress
I have written a number of articles regarding roleplaying games - especially about #hexcrawls and other #osr related topics. I'm currently setting up a website which will be sort of paired with this Mastodon instance, where I can publish those articles.
