The coda to this eventful weekend has been a game of Labyrinth: the awakening. First time playing the expansion; regular opponents always wanted to learn the base game first.

I lost as Terrorist with an automatic defeat by reaching the required resources of Good countries. My fault: I gambled that the US last card will not be enough to raise Irak’s governance level to Good, after I played the infamous Old Spike event. Why risk such scenario? Because it was my last chance to cancel one lasting event that was making me to lost 2 funding points at the end of the turn.

Another wonderful gsming morning. And as icing on the cake, I managed to join to a future game of Pax Renaissance, a game I have been wanting to play for a while now. But it is no #HexesForever game proper, so I’ll not being reporting my experiences here. 😎

Woke up early in the morning to Banzai charges, Berserker charges, Dare Death charges, 5 HtH CCs on the map, DC Heros self detonating, Leaders dropping DC's off rooftops, beautiful orange sprouts of flames from flamethrowers, ambushes, encirclements & infiltrations all on the streets of Shanghai!!!! IT'S GLORIOUS!!

Yesterday I played the same theater as Littoral Commander but zoomed out: South China Sea. Reeally fun! We started the scenario with the political turns, which resulted in a Combined Manouvers between Vietnam-US and Malaysia-China. It was also how two submarines were deployed in hidden positions, one form each side. And both will create some tense situations at the end of the battle!

After a bold US movement, violating an exclusion zone, war was triggered and the rest of the forces were deployed. The Chinese chose an indirect approach, giving time to the US destroyers to control the southern islets. Another US destroyer had been deployed at a coastal hex in The Philippines -giving humanitarian support after a natural catastrophe had hit the area-. From this point it took positions at the northern side of the Spratly islets, screening the advance of the PLAN fleet. It was supported by some Vietnamese units.

The Chinese was very shy in his attacks, mostly because of the deterrence created by the pair of F-35 on the USS Nimitz.

There were more little stories during the game, as the secondary attack performed by the Vietnamese fixed wings against the Black Eagle behind the first line of combat.

Much fun this weekend. Today we (USA) lost against the PLAN in Littoral Commander, Luzon Pass scenario. I feel that I still don’t have enough understanding of how to use all the capabilities provided by the joint cards, but this scenario seems hard to win for the US side. The chinese navy has a lot of IAMD ammo to counteract the LRS attacks and is hard to find a way between their defenses.

We will keep trying -and hopefully learning along the way-.

This past weekend I taught South China Sea to one of my regular partners. Just the military turns. Next weekend we will be playing the same scenario but spicing it a little with the political turns.

One of the good things about this game is how fast you can play some of the scenarios. With a bit of luck we will be able to add some more players so we can play with the regional powers. I still have to try a multiplayer game with this one.

Yesterday we finished an introductory scenario of the C3 system, Welcome to Braunschweig of The Dogs of War, with a friend who bought the second edition of Less Than 60 miles.

He managed to win the game by eliminating many of my NATO battalions and crossing the Oker river. As usual, he resorted to the use of nukes to blown his way up. I say ‘as usual’ because it’s one of the first things asked by everybody learning the game: can I use nuclear weapons? And they do, indeed.

In this particular case, he was also careless enough to defenestrate two battalions giving combat support. Ah, the youngsters!

One of my fave yet under used mechanics in #boardgames is double-blind. Each player has an identical map where the only their units and the front line is marked. Units tend to blunder into each other when players call out the enemy controlled hex they are moving into. 8th Army: Operation Crusader is the best of the 3 put out by GDW in the early 80s.

The game came out way back in 1984. How many board gamers are younger than this #boardgame ? On second thoughts don’t answer that!

There was actual gaming this weekend! Yesterday, my Cuba Libre game ended in a narrow Syndicate victory (as it often does, because I always forget to stomp on them).

Today, my wife and I finally got our own copy of Wild Blue Yonder by #GMTGames on the table. We learned #DownInFlames at Pacificon last year and enjoyed it enough to buy it. Enjoyed it again today, too.

We followed that with another game of #RaceForTheGalaxy with the Alien Artifacts stuff, and finished things off with a brand new game, the title of which I shall redact because we bought a second copy of it as a gift for a special someone who might read this...great times all around. #HexesForever
