I know exactly where this is: the building conversion project at the top of our street, which seemed to progress in slow fits and starts before stopping completely. Rumour has it that the developer has gone bust, so I imagine it'll stay like this for some time yet.

The Holiday is Over

A short ride (in the rain, again) from exotic Port of Tyne International Passenger Terminal back to sunny (not) Hexham this morning, with just a detour via Kiln in Ouseburn for some delicious brunch to prolong the holiday experience slightly.

Now, back to swearing at my laptop. (Actually, probably doing some AWS stuff, so swearing at other people's computers.)

Early into #Hexham to drop car off for its annual service and MOT #HexhamAbbey

A very quiet #Hexham Market Place currently being used as a set for #Vera. Apparently the production company paid the market traders off while they're filming. Parking in many of the local streets also suspended. The town noticeably quieter than it should be on a beautiful sunny Tuesday morning. I hope #ITV and #Vera sod off ASAP.

Victorian red brick in a sandstone town! This part of #Hexham, still with its open brook flowing over the flagstones, was the tannery quarter. This characterful pub is now called The Tannery, but as the gable end reveals, its original name was The Skinners’ Arms. #Northumberland

Final photo of the year for December. A bit corny on new year's eve to pick a path heading into the distance, but I'm a corny guy. In case it seems over-optimistic, I'll point out the path is very slippery and at times the low sun means you can't see where you're going.

#TynedaleOnThursday: St Mary’s Chare in #Hexham. St Mary’s was the town’s original parish church, demolished at the Reformation when the dissolved Augustinian Priory took over its function. The street cuts through the site of the church from the market square east of #HexhamAbbey.

Dedicated to our favourite indie bookshop, #CogitoBooks in St Mary’s Chare!

Packed and ready for a blissful week-long break in a secluded country cottage (where there's no telly and no Wi-Fi) quite near #Hexham ... away from all the #Christmas hullabaloo.
