For the first #hillfortwednesday, here is the Harpstedter pot from #Piepenkopf, Westphalia, Germany, after #conservation. Excavated in 2019 by @CUHistArchRel@twitter.com, led by @CUHeritageSci@twitter.com's Ian Denis, the vessel was likely used as a cooking pot and over 2000 years old. Scale 20cm. 1/2

Nordy Bank is a univallate hillfort on the flanks of Brown Clee Hill, the highest hill in Shropshire.
Here's a composite of some 540+ drone photos, mostly from a P4Pro, but some from a Mavic Pro, all stitched together using OpenDroneMap of the hillfort and it's environs.
OpenDroneMap handled the 2 sets of images from 2 different drones effortlessly!

Brough Law, Ingram, Northumberland.

Historic England describes Brough Law Hillfort as “…a massive multivallate hillfort probably dating to the late Iron Age. It has three lines of defense (sic) in the form of stone walls and rubble core banks, as well as several entrances.”

In the photo cultivation terraces are clearly visible below the summit left.

#HillfortWednesday This is section of the (probably) medieval West Wansdyke running down the north-east boundary of the Iron Age Stantonbury Hillfort, near #Bath #Somerset #UK. The Wansdyke was a later addition, but we still aren't exactly certain who built it & why. It probably ran from Stantonbury to Maes Knoll Hillfort a few miles away, however there is a considerable gap that has yet to be explained. I've been studying this monument for years and still can't make sense of it!

#HillFortWednesday This is the ramparts of the hill fort at Wittenham Clumps - taken at Boxing Day 2008. A truely wonderful place.

I see that it's #HillFortWednesday - so here's a meagre offering from Wittenham., taken on Boxing Day about 15 years back.

Wittenham is a fabulous place - Paul Nash painted it many times. If you've never been, it's well worth a trip.

Here visible on the skyline is Woodbury Iron Age Hill Fort #HillFortWednesday It is a special place for me. Not only my old school house but the name of the road where my mother was born. It is the #hillfort from which #OwainGlyndŵr Welsh/ French armies had a face off with the army of the English king #HenryIV before they were starved out and returned home.
