#Amaryllis aka #Hippeastrum 'Matador' (Barnhoorn Hippeastrum, 2008), blooming quite late this year. Mainly because I put it in a dark corner of the storage room last fall and promptly forgot about it!

Part two of #windowsill #Hippeastrum correiense (#Amaryllis Belladonna L.) in bloom. #Portrait orientation so toot preview won't do it justice. Slightly edited to correct perspective, otherwise (very nearly) #SooC & untouched. Lens used this time was Yashica ML 50mm f/1.7 with fully open aperture. Two external Godox #flash guns, one above the Amaryllis, the other slightly from the side of the #Canon #FullFrame camera. I tried other #lighting positions, but I liked #shadows in this shot the most.

Illuminated using two off-cam Godox V860IIc #flash guns. I was too lazy to change lenses since my out-of-the-window birding today, so this was done using same Soligor #VintageLenses stack on a #Canon #FullFrame body as my Blackbird photo earlier today.

As you can see, there was no need to change the lenses. Exceptional sharpness, clean #bokeh, suitable depth of field, beautiful and faithful colours, great contrast (no boost there!) and no optical aberrations to speak of. This is #unprocessed #SooC Jpeg.

FWIW the lens stack I used for this and many, many other photos I take cost me about 100€ including a multicoated teleconverter with built-in macro-focusing helicoid, very good but equally inexpensive UV filter, an anodized aluminum lens hood and all lens caps, front and back. They even came in a nice faux-leather padded pouch and desiccant bags. And the stack takes tack sharp and aberration-free photos at focal lengths from 28 to 400mm (i.e. a 14.3x zoom) and can do 1:1 macro! Take that [insert any brand that would like you to sell your house, your left kidney, and your firstborn son to buy one with similar performance off them]! 😜 #VendorUnlock #FightTheFuture 🤘🏽

#OTD William Herbert, British #Botanist & #Clergyman, is born.

William confused #Gardener-s after he split the Amaryllis genera into #Amaryllis & #Hippeastrum.

There is only one species in the Amaryllisllis genus - the #Belladonna.

The Hippeastrum genera has 90 species, including the big #Bulbs we pot up in the #Winter & commonly refer to as Amaryllis. But really, they are Hippeastrum - a name that doesn't roll off the tongue & has never caught on.

We got those beautiful #Hippeastrum #Amaryllis plant from our neighbors for Christmas, and it's in full bloom now. Reminds me a bit of S05E06 of #StarTrekTNG (The game) 😅

I hope it will survive as it seems a bit complicated to care for as far as I read, but I'm optimistic ☺️

Our Amaryllis started flowering on Christmas Eve and has been thrilling us with additional blooms every couple of days since. This photo was taken on New Year's Eve when there were three blooms.
