I am not a #polyglot, not even close, but I do like learning languages. I speak none fluently, but I could probably function as a tourist who knows enough to get by in some of those countries that speak them. Anyway, I had no problem with remembering the #CyrillicAlphabet, which I think now is because it has so much in common with the #RomanAlphabet. I had no frame of reference with the #hirigana or #katakana #syllabary and there was no #romaji in the #japanese #Duolingo test.

Every language I’ve studied on #Duolingo except #Ukrainian I’ve studied before. I took #Spanish (1yr) and #German (2yrs) in high school; #Russian (3yrs, minor) and #Japanese (1 semester) in college; and (Scottish) #Gaelic self-study group and Gaelic tutor. All of them I took a Duolingo placement test to see how much I remembered. I just started Japanese and tried the placement test but stopped because I didn’t remember the #hirigana or very many words I’d learned, so I started as a beginner.
