Is there any room in #historicalcostuming communities for Black and Brown voices? Every time I try to participate in predominantly white costumer social spaces if the faintest waft of the pastβs structural horrors pop up itβs all shushed and brushed aside lest it upset others. How is suffocating open discussions of the past any different than Florida BoE or how people behaved in the Georgian-Victorian ages?
I hoped the community was better than this. #Blackcostumers #blackcosplay

I'll be using this group of patterns from Folkwear patterns and making everything in black, starting with the camisole.

Rachel Maksy posted on her Instagram that her summer aesthetic is "Scantily Clad Victorian". I also want this to be my aesthetic, so time to make some 19th century underthings and then wear them as outerthings!

There's a note in #PatternsOfFashion that the Snowshill Manor riding habit may have been worn open over a waistcoat. I think I can make a strong case that it was.
I cut the original pattern with no fit alterations besides straightening out the side back seams (they are slightly curved in the original). You can see that the original pattern fits me okay through the back (it bunches under the arms because the seam allowance is in the way).

Sometimes you make something and it just calls for fangs. Such was the case with this fancy little capelet I threw together with some wool and velvet remnants I had lying around. I also used it as a chance to add some trimmings like soutash and fringe.

And now, what we're here for most of all: the cats joining me for my living room photo shoot.

I have documented the new French drawers I made! And also this somewhat historically correct Edwardian ensemble for my summer promenading needs!
Join me for a brief thread of photos and some explanations. 1/?

I have gone through all the photos and picked a reasonable amount of them, but absolutely will not be editing all of them today.
But just so you know my pain, here's this quick edit of my boy Karvinen distracting me in the midst of my photo shoot, of which I had like a dozen photos

I have re-documented this redingote ensemble I finished in 2021!
Circa 1780s, made from a cheap viscose/linen because it was meant to be a fun quick costume and I didn't want to pay out the nose. Naturally it got out of hand so I hand sewed the entire thing. The petticoat for it I pieced together from scraps because I almost had enough fabric for it! More about process below.

A month ago I decided that I wanted to make a historical garment in an obviously modern fabric and .... Tadaaa!
I'm really not happy with it, as I stated above, but it was a good learning opportunity. Also I bought that very cute brooch to go with it.
An 1880s style tea gown, using the pattern from Truly Victorian in cotton voile lined with a heavy cotton twill. It's lightly lined with synthetic belline and has a Watteau back.

I kinda want to take more photos of my nice #Edwardian clothes because I deeply enjoy the feeling of having Even More Hips and it's way too cold to go outside in a way that a jacket or coat would not entirely cover the Additional Hips.
The padding+corset combo is just very fun! And it's just nice that not so long ago it was normal to want to have Maximum Ass and that it was perfectly fine to achieve it via creative textile manipulation.
I love pretty much any historical fashion era where Considerable Caboose with big skirts was the thing but I also love Edwardian!

Gently place your gaze upon this cap I just finished and extremely half-assedly photographed!
Pretty quick to make despite hemming and gathering a large quantity of ruffle by hand. I thought I was making it even bigger than the previous one and it's still slightly too small to wear with this wig styled like this π β

I did it! I photographed #TheAmaliaJacket πβ
Sure, I was actually attempting to photograph the petticoat, fichu, shift and cap I also recently finished but then decided to toss on the jacket while I was at it. πβ
Here pictured is another 1780s ensemble, this time a little cheeky middle class working lass.
