This detail from Royal MS 2 B VII f. 37v (Queen Mary Psalter) shows a slate frame on trestles much like the way I use today for my #goldwork #embroidery (although it looks like this person is transferring a design). The psalter dates to AD 1310-1320. If anyone knows of older depictions, please let me know!

Enjoying transcribing the many #crossstitch patterns on this vintage Sinai Bedouin dress. The bright #embroidery tells a lot about the former wearer: her social status and her place of origin. Makes my blue jeans feel suddenly very plain 🤔
