This week on my blog, I uncovered nothing and solved no mystery. For some reason, the 1886 Bicentennial Committee chose to honor a street that was barely a street then, only an alley now. The went missing more than a century ago, and I personally know every person who knows where Dean Street is.

The latest in my series on the city of Albany, NY's bicentennial markers, placed in 1886. This one refers to three events in Academy Park – one that probably never happened, one that inaugurated an observatory that still hadn't been built, and one that raised significant money for Civil War medical aid.

In 1886, Albany, NY placed a series of around the city, denoting important places and people in its . I've been slowly telling the stories of those markers. Today's story covers a still extant marker that commemorates the city's old city hall, its first mayor Pieter Schuyler, its southeast gate, and the Congress of 1754, where offered the Albany Plan of Union.

The celebrating publisher Joel Munsell has been missing for more than a century. He did the most to record and preserve the history of the city of , and we commemorate him with: exactly nothing.

Without his work, particularly "The Annals of Albany," vast amounts of minutiae would have been lost.

Anyone know anything about the Shawneetown marker in Idabel, OK?

According to Waymarking.com it should be right next to the Miller Courthouse marker on W Lincoln Rd., but according to Google Street View, the marker is gone.

Included are photos from Waymarking.com and Google Street View.

Does anyone know the location of the Pecan Point marker?

Its said to be on State Highway 87/U.S. 259 near the Red River. (South of Idabel OK)

Reference: okhistory.org/publications/enc

This is the only picture I've found of it, and I can't find it on Google Street View. GSV shows Bridge construction going on at the Red river.
