I often write about the #LocalHistory of #AlbanyNY – I've been focused on telling the stories of a series of #markers put up during the city's charter #bicentennial.
The latest entry tells some stories of one of #Albany's shortest streets, Norton Street, where #AaronBurr once practiced law.

Croll’s Building at the corner of Webster Street and Central Avenue has a new—and now historically accurate—plaque after the old one was stolen.

Time for another late night update on #LAHistoricalMarkers. I’ve put the finishing touches on full screen photo viewing (with support for screen rotation) and am working on TestFlight/Play Beta builds now!

Multiple photo support is coming along nicely in #LAHistoricalMarkers!
I still need to create an interaction for full screen viewing (including handling of orientation). And then it’ll be time for another Android UI pass… 😅

This week on my #LocalHistory blog, I uncovered nothing and solved no mystery. For some reason, the 1886 #AlbanyNY Bicentennial Committee chose to honor a street that was barely a street then, only an alley now. The #HistoricalMarker went missing more than a century ago, and I personally know every person who knows where Dean Street is.

I just got the first anonymous submission to #LAHistoricalMarkers in quite a while. The vast majority of markers are ones the wife and I entered ourselves, but the occasional submissions from strangers are always a little pick-me-up!
This one, Christ Episcopal Church, is in #Covington #Louisiana on the north-shore of #LakePontchartrain. According to the sign, it is the oldest public building still in use there!

The latest in my series on the city of Albany, NY's bicentennial markers, placed in 1886. This one refers to three events in Academy Park – one that probably never happened, one that inaugurated an observatory that still hadn't been built, and one that raised significant money for Civil War medical aid.

The second stop was also a bust, but our third was a hit. The site of Woodlawn Highschool and the Struggle for Racial Equality. This is currently the site of the volunteer fire department and there is also an unmarked old building, which isn’t the school (it was demolished in 2014).
The wife and I are going “sign hunting” one last time before our first child arrives. We’ll be driving along the east bank of the #MississippiRiver in #Plaquemine Parish looking for signs placed as part of #Louisiana’s #HistoricalMarkers program.
I’m kicking off this thread to record the day’s adventures. Our first stop will be down in Pointe-A-La-Hache, then we’ll work our way back towards #NOLA.
Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get into!

Historical marker on the northern shore of Seneca Lake. Feel like I should dive in to a Wikipedia hole about Sullivan's Expedition. I'm sure none of it is good. I know so little about the history of the Finger Lakes area despite living here most of my life. #FingerLakes #historicalMarkers

As some of you may know, I help document national historical markers in #Wikidata and #WikimediaCommons. And today's photo haul is from the town of Santa Maria in the province of Bulacan, which I visited because that's where the annual grand-maternal family reunion was held.

In 1886, Albany, NY placed a series of #historicalmarkers around the city, denoting important places and people in its #history. I've been slowly telling the stories of those markers. Today's story covers a still extant marker that commemorates the city's old city hall, its first mayor Pieter Schuyler, its southeast gate, and the Congress of 1754, where #BenjaminFranklin offered the Albany Plan of Union.

While I was in Legazpi attending State of the Map Asia, I also went around the area to take photos of a few NHCP historical markers for my #Wikidata -based project #Panandâ. I would've wanted to visit 4 more markers but didn't have the time anymore.

The #historicalmarker celebrating publisher Joel Munsell has been missing for more than a century. He did the most to record and preserve the history of the city of #Albany, and we commemorate him with: exactly nothing.
Without his work, particularly "The Annals of Albany," vast amounts of minutiae would have been lost.

Photos Needed.
If you're in the Adair County / Stilwell, Oklahoma area we're looking for photos of these historical markers, located here: https://goo.gl/maps/Bdwons1f7fawjLAp6
One of these markers should be for Fairfield Mission.

In 1886, #Albany NY celebrated the bicentennial of its charter with a series of #historicalmarkers, many of which still exist. One that does not marked the house where "Yankee Doodle" purportedly was written – and that may have been the only correct fact on the marker.
The house was nearly sold off brick by brick at the turn of the last century.
