Looking south across the river, I noticed an old road followed the bank and at one point jutted out into the river around a large rock outcrop. An impressive rock wall supported the road around the rock, but the river has started to wear away the foundation. Further down the trail, I had a nice view looking upstream and got to watch a train cross the bridge.

And, you wonder why New Hampshire has so many winter power line issues? Fortunately, for this short stretch of historic road in Francestown that is lined with ancient sugar maples, the power line has been buried.
