Scaled up the pattern for this petticoat from "The Voice of Fashion" this afternoon - the description says to put the waist on a drawstring, which I'm not doing as it would be so uncomfortable; have to pleat and gather it to a waistband. And I'll be shortening it some since I don't wear skirts longer than high-calf length. #sewing #historybounding
The back waist is gathered! I did one row of gathering stitches and centered the band over it, which is more efficient than the two you're supposed to do, IMO. And I've used twill tape for the ties rather than fabric for further efficiency! #sewing #TVE47 #HistoryBounding

Nearly done! All that's left is the small bit of gathering at the center back waist + ties, bottom hem, and buttons and buttonholes. (I say that like it's nothing but it will take me a week to do the buttonholes. Not my forte.) #HistoryBounding #sewing #TVE47

The patterns I'm delusionally thinking I could make in some sort of modernized way to look interesting but not too costumey. I should make scale versions to try them out ... #HistoryBounding #edwardian #FashionHistory

And the sleeves are essentially done! The plackets were tricky but look so nice in the end. The cuffs are massive because they sit at the elbow, not the wrist. #HistoryBounding #sewing #TVE47

Clyde was far too involved in the sleeve cutting-out. One of those cat moods where they jump back in the way the second you put them elsewhere, and then lash their tail at you for daring to get in *their* way. #sewing #HistoryBounding #cats #TVE47

The tricky to vanquishing executive dysfunction is apparently to pick up a project one hasn't touched in months and ignore whatever else one has been trying to do. I attached the back body to the back yoke, and made the collar, and attached it. Still need to decide between short and long sleeves. #sewing #HistoryBounding #TrulyVictorian #TVE47

I'll be using this group of patterns from Folkwear patterns and making everything in black, starting with the camisole.

Rachel Maksy posted on her Instagram that her summer aesthetic is "Scantily Clad Victorian". I also want this to be my aesthetic, so time to make some 19th century underthings and then wear them as outerthings!

New shirt! I think I might finally be winning with the Keystone shirtwaist draft. Though it's still a little aspirational as far as my actual posture goes. These sleeves may yet annoy me and I might go back and gather them into cuffs.

I've also once again rediscovered this mostly orange flannel house dress I made based on a tea gown pattern many many many years ago. It's a very comfy house dress.
The skirt underneath is a super normal (deep sarcasm) older skirt to wear just at home, a narrow little 1890s skirt from a random bargain fabric.

I set the sleeves yesterday but the little clip I saved of it was kind of terrible, so here they are in daylight. 😄 Large sleeves are large! They're not as big as they could be but definitely larger than what is now normal. Oh 1890s, you silly fashion era.
They're quite heavy so I was worried about the weight of them pulling the back, but apparently it's mostly fine.

The sleeves are tentatively on!
They're only basted in for now and I will ponder them and see if some divine inspiration makes me see how to still improve on them, but there they are.
#TheLinenRidingJacket looks even more like a jacket! Ideally I'd finish the hem sometime soon, but I also haven't decided yet if I want to make and add shoulder padding, sleeve head padding or perhaps tulle inside the sleeve. Perhaps later!

By the fucking stars, it's actually going to be a jacket??
Put on the collar on #TheLinenRidingJacket and spent a good long while coming up with creative ways to flatten the seam allowances: A combination of felling by hand and bias slivers of fusible interfacing. Some tailoring crimes may have been committed. But it worked out!
I'm going to attach the lapel facing entirely by hand, but later. It's barely pinned closed and I'm not wearing any of the under layers, and yet!

#TheLinenWalkingSkirt! 100% Oeko-Tex linen, with a cotton twill hem facing.
I just got done with finishing it by hand, all six metres of hem facing. 😄
Here's a clip of it being worn in the glamorous setting of my living room, until such a time I can be bothered to document it better. Made from The Black Snail Patterns Fan Skirt pattern, which was drafted using a 1890 tailoring guide - with my modifications.

I bought a bunch of wool back in the winter for planned #HistoryBounding, but of course I didn't touch it then and now it's too warm for wool skirts. I'm thinking about getting some linen and going for the vibe of this group in Edwardian sportswear from the Powerhouse Collection (https://collection.maas.museum/object/386904). @histodons
It begins. Yesterday spent hours cutting out the many layers of #TheLinenRidingHabit pieces, then flatlining and overlocking every piece with this thin brown cotton.
Today I basted down the interfacing canvas on the collar and lapel pieces and got started on the darts.
These darts at the front I know I will never adjust, and thus slashed & graded the seam allowance so I could steam and catch stitch them as flat as possible.
(Usually you should never grade darts, it tidily prevents you from making fit adjustments down the line!)

Me, making style adjustments to the sleeves of a pattern I've fitted previously, out loud: I AM GOING TO MAKE THEM BIGGER
