Doing a little Googling, 'NEUZEITLICHE OLYMPIADE' is 'Modern Olympics" in German, which makes sense given it is arranged between the 1896 and 1984 dates.

The 1984 summer Olympics were in LA, and winter was in Bosnia and Herzegovina. No idea why 1986 is also included.

I can find other examples of this ribbon type on collector sites: icollector.com/383-1978-Olympi

However, I don't seem to be much closer to what the story is here. Boosts appreciated.

Reading now (finally) André Swanström's "Hakaristin ritarit" (2018; The Knights of the Swastika), an in-depth account of Finnish volunteers to the Waffen-SS.

Based on available sources, Swanström shows that contrary to previous narrative, Finnish SS-volunteers were not predominantly "apolitical", but many from fascist backgrounds and likely participated in (later confirmed).

Important and chilling book.

Has anyone written anything on the names of forced labor camps (slave plantations)? New Hope, Amistad (friendship) are two I've learned the names of while reading Ada Ferrer's Cuba and the names are both sickening and shocking.

Today is the feast day of St Gregory of Tours who died in 594.
His History of the Franks was the key source for my historical fiction novel Dawn of the Franks - the story of Basina of Thuringia
Set against a backdrop of the waning power of Rome, the sun rises on a new era...

The further they were from the boats, the more nervous Ari became. His bad feeling about this raid only increased as the grey first light streaked with pink. Soon the sun would glint on their weaponry, proclaiming their arrival as obviously as the beacons burning on the hilltops.
