#Atlantis. Most #legends have a factual kernel at their source and Atlantis is no exception. One place is Europe has a history of cities being built on sandbars and then being washed away and sinking under the sea during a large storm. This is the land along the English channel. For a fairly recent example see the History Guy's video on Grote Mandrenke (Great Drowning) or Saint Marcellus's flood of 1362 CE in which the city of Durwich was washed away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgWsMFS77X8
Based on its Akkadian etymology "Atlantis" refers to a people living on a mound which emerged out of the wind-swept ocean.
Atlantis, Atlantic: Akkadian phrase A.TL.NT meaning "Those of the wind-manifested mounds" via Latin atlanticus and Greek atlantikos. Plato's Timaeus sections 24e to 25d (360 BCE) which references it Atlantis is spelled as Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος or "Atlantis Nesos" or "Atlantis the distant" where "nesu" is an Akkadian word meaning "distant."
