Making good progress on #AuroraCabinShawl #HKAL2022, but I doubt I'll finish by Wednesday... Using a fade yarn set from Birdstreet Yarn

I started the Starflake shawl using Fearless Yarn Speckled Sock in Kiss My Tiara and TuMeke Yarns 100% SW Merino Singles in Tekapo and I just love how it looks so far.
I also finished section 4 of the #AuroraCabinShael #HKAL2022 in the Birdstreet Yarns pink fade set. I'm going to try to finish this before the end of the KAL, which gives me less than a week...

I picked up my #AuroraCabinShawl #HKAL2022 after a break and my row counter didn't tally with my notes so I had lost my place. So I ripped out and started over, this time reversing the colour sequence as per Stephen's instructions. I finished sections 1-3 in two days, so I'm off to a good start!

Knitting Nerd Report:

Just 1-1/2 rows to finish of section 4 - garter ridge stripes. Then a mega-increase row, going from 285 to 381 stitches in one pass. Then section 5, another multi-color slip stitch band like first one. That's gonna suck up LOTS of hours. Then another easy 2-color band, a final band of 5-color slip stitches, and a chevron finish. This is turning out to be a major enterprise, all on US3 needles. Gonna need a softball next! 🧶

Good evening, mastoknitters! Here is my version of Stephen West/WestKnits' #AuroraCabinShawl. There are close to 1,000 knitters participating in this #HKAL2022 (Hiber Knit A-Long). We all cast on on Dec 26th, most of us are about 1/2 way through.

It's a five color knit, with an innovative use of Ye Olde Slipped Stitch employed. Only one color yarn is held at a time, mercifully. The many permutations can be seen on #Ravelry. Soooo fun! 🧶🤗

@Pdlaon Hi LL, how is your #AuroraCabinShawl coming along?! I have just 1-1/2 rows left until the first stripe section. That first pattern band was HARD!

I had to go really slow and majorly focus to do it. Still recovering from a brain injury and while the mental challenges are good, it takes something to push through. Also bad neuropathy in my hands. Knitting is major on my road to recovery! Here's a pic of where I'm at now.

@DoubleTreble Thanks Miss Double, I worked really hard on color selection for this one. I made color boards even, in Canva, like this, which is also helpful to see color values in black and white. Loving the whole process with this one!

Greatly enjoying this #AuroraCabinShawl knit! A Stephen West design spotlighting dropped stitches, this current #HKAL2022 is now underway w close to 1,000 people around the world participating. It's a blast to see all the palettes chosen on #Ravelry.

Knitters nerd note - I screwed up when purchasing yarn for this, was supposed to be 400yds/100g per color, and I got 400yds/55g. A friend pointed out "It's ok, it will just be summer weight" and she was right! Thank God. 💞🧶🙏

Gosh I'm having a blast, knitting Stephen West's #AuroraCabinShawl for the #HKAL2022... Five colors, mostly working with dropped stitches, no carrying (just knitting or purling with one strand at a time). I might have to make this one twice!

@SheBear Not mohair actually, this is a very finely spun CASHMERE! That I bought by accident but that's another story. 😬

I'm loving working with it. What you might be seeing in that shot is the "halo" aka the fuzz along the stand. I puffed it pretty well in the beginning with all the rough manhandling involve when starting on small needles (US3).
