This winter I did some cool stuff with #Hnefatafl, an unsymmetric #viking board game that's been recreated. Our version forces the current player to make a capturing move if one exists. It's playable here: http://kyleburke.info/DB/combGames/forcedCaptureHnefatafl.html There is a deterministic path to victory on the Brandubh board for the Attackers in three moves. See if you can find it!

I've been having fun playing against the Medium "AI" on the Ard Rí board. (I lose most of the time.)

Made my own #hnefatafl board of vegetable tanned #leather which i cut, wet, lined and stamped with celtic patterns. then i dyed, waxed, and brushed it. I think it looks great, ready for a match between skilled #viking players.
(the pegs / men are from a hnefatafl set i bought, but i will replace them with my own carved figurines later)

Any fans of #Hnefatafl out there? Just learned of this game, eager to try it out.

Board games have a long history in Ireland. I wonder how many family squabbles took place around this Hnefatafl board [a sort of Viking chess] found at Ballinderry Crannog in Westmeath.

Gaming pieces were also some of the most common finds during excavations in Viking Age levels in Dublin

One of my other interests is the #Viking board game #hnefatafl. I have a whole web site dedicated to it at http://tafl.cyningstan.com/ that I've built up since about 2007 or so. I haven't yet implemented the game in #msdos, but the picture is a mockup of what it would probably look like if I did - as usual using #cga graphics and aiming to run on the original #ibmpc.

I made my #Hnefatafl board. Now I just need some pieces... Hmmm...
