No worries - I wasn't trying to make a point.

Where that did become an issue was in the women's world cup where #FIFAWWC was the official FIFA one - and suddenly people added at least half a dozen new ones and one of the hard core fans created the @wwc group so that they only had to type 3 letters when they wanted to say "Great Shot" and not 6 hashtags with over 50 characters - which is not efficient if using a phone.

Thankfully #HNOM is fairly widely accepted. now.

The NFL works well because of the large number of national TV games - and everyone uses the same hashtag.

The NHL crowd consciously promoted #HNOM when the playoffs started cuz the season is 32 separate fan groups watching their 82 games together on local TV using team hashtags.

NBA is similar but although NBA is the obvious hashtag, it just didn't work as well in the playoffs. The GSW fans didn't even use the same hashtag cuz they all followed each other anyway.
