Pretty funny to see #HOAs as John Oliver's topic on #LastWeekTonight. I've lived in three different HOAs in the US and one of them was a nightmare (they fined us because a neighbor's kid parked his car in front of our house and any time we didn't bring in our trash cans before sunset (we had a 1h evening commute).

Another HOA was almost impossible to communicate or pay, but very quick to levee late fees.

I now regard HOAs as an antifeature of a house and won't buy a house which has one.
