I have been very lucky this Christmas and had almost a whole week off with my loved ones. However, tomorrow I am back at work and although my team tomorrow is fab & all people I genuinely like. I still don’t want to go back. It’s been so nice to disconnect for a few days, I just want a few days more in my Christmas bubble…. #BackToWork #HolidayBlues #EarlyNight

I usually avoid checking my social media during Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve because it just adds to my depression. But so far, Mastodon doesn’t have that effect on me unlike Instagram and FB (back when I still had FB). #holidayblues

My holiday is nearing a close and I am left with a bittersweet feeling.

I really enjoyed my time here and will cherish the memories I made. However, I am sad it is over. #HolidayBlues

I guess I can't blame EVERYTHING on the holiday season blues:

1. I've been waiting to see a specialist for a health issue I've been dealing with since last January. I've called the referred provider twice in the last 2 months and they "don't have the referral." I've called my primary 3 times about this and they've sent the referral 3 times now. Even if I get the referrals straightened out, there's a 3 to 6 month wait.

2. S.O. doesn't want to use Chrome on his main computer, so I bought him a really stripped down Windows laptop. All he did was complain while I was getting all the Chrome apps working, which he needs for tele-med visits.

3. Went to the grocery store to stock up on a few things. The price of eggs is ridiculous, but I bought a dozen jumbos. I put them in a cooler in the back of the SUV for protection. When I opened the hatch, the cooler fell out and 1/2 of the eggs broke. Scrambled eggs for supper, and the dogs get the rest.

4. Speaking of dogs, was playing with one of them and her mouth ran into my hand. Now I have a couple of butterfly bandages that I have to keep changing.

The next 8 hours have to be better!

Around this time
My happy turns to sad.

First week of December I am delighted. I like putting lights up, decorating and being festive. The closer we get to the 25th, stress and anxiety overwhelms me.

Can't afford to travel home to see family. My parents are elderly. Nieces and nephews growing up so fast.

I come from a big south Louisiana family with Acadian heritage. They drive me crazy but I miss them and Christmas in Louisiana.

It's okay to not be into the holidays.

Everyone else's excitement may not be relatable to you; it sure isn't to me. Only the parts I get to share with my grownkids mean anything to me anymore, and that's okay too, but even that involves more logistics than I'd like and feels overwhelming.

So if you're feeling that, you're not alone.

Just another shout out to everyone for whom the upcoming #holidays are a solid drag. It can change over the years, but at this point in life the anticipation and logistics bring no joy, so all this build-up is just a reminder that I don't want to do any of this to begin with. We now have an actual plan for how to spend Christmas day with both our children, and that will be nice, but the logistics are just wearying and no fun.

I’m in a wildly destructive mood (not self-destructive!)

Just fighting the urge to pull apart every project I’m knitting and cancel all my holiday plans and hide in my bed under the blankets.

I woke up this morning to two phone calls from friends. Variations of "Ed, are you feeling grumpy?" "No," I replied, "not just you! I was grumpy as fuck last night."

Folks, given the state of the world and the relentlessly saccharine nature of artificial "holiday cheer," it's fucking exhausting to live right now! I'm here to tell you that getting in touch with your inner Scrooge or being grumpy is a PERFECTLY RATIONAL human response to the apocalypse!
