I recall that you #complained last year, and as a result of your #complaints we cancelled our #school’s #annual #megillah #reading, even though it was a highlight of the Adar #HolidaySeason, and even though we received negative media attention as “the school that cancelled Purim.”

Many atheists have no problem with it, recognizing that this is simply the #HolidaySeason and that #Purim is just a #normal #American #holiday and only a #religious one if you insist on FULFILLMENT of the #mitzvot (which we, as a #PublicSchool, obviously do not).

Everyone else at our school, in fact, has no problem with it, and most families are atheist.

How could anyone in #MedinatAmerica not know what #Purim is when it’s allll around them??

Purim products take up several aisles in every store weeks ahead of the #HolidaySeason;

Every TV series has a Purim special;

Every radio station plays nonstop Purim music since Tu B’Shvat;

Every #PublicSchool hosts Purim assemblies and each class has a Purim party (and Purim coloring pages);

Every city has pop-up Purim costume stores in;

Every bakery, cafe, and grocery sells hamantashen.

It's not too late to buy your #GirlScout #Hamantashen in time for #Purim this 5783 #HolidaySeason!

Look for local troops' #hamantash booths in front of grocery stores all across the city!

This morning, the #HolidaySeason officially ended: the #peppermintmocha #coffee ran out. Now I will have to suffer through, like, 50 weeks with something #normal, like a #sucker.

When the change was made to the Gregorian Calendar in 1582, a little more than 10 days were lost and by the time all of Europe accepted the Gregorian Calendar in the 17th century, it was a full 12 days from December 25 to January 6. Since the calendar was the product of Pope Gregory XIII, many protestants refused to accept it and kept celebrating Christmas in January 6. 3/3

I saw mention of Eastern Orthodox Christmas and it reminded me of the now nearly vanished Appalachian tradition of Old Christmas. Few people my age know it, but my grandmother, who was born in 1899, talked about when I was a child.
Catholics call January 6 the Feast of Epiphany and in Shakespeare's day it was Twelfth Night, but in Appalachia it was and is Old Christmas. A friend celebrates it when her adult children come home for Christmas after celebrating 1/2
