Holy Innocents’ Day, an engraving by French artist François Brochet (1925–2001) who made his home in Burgundy. A young mother is protecting her child from Herod’s terror, remembering happier times when she first presented her newborn infant to the world. We remember all children who are cruelly used today.

Today is the #4thDayofChristmas, and #InnocentsDay or #Childermas, so here's an #anonymous #16thCentury #song for the day.
The 'Coventry' #carol is probably the best known of #Tudor #carols, would have been sung originally by the women in The #Pageant of the Shearmen & Taylors, one of the #Coventry #MysteryPlays.

It’s the #4thDayOfChristmas and the commemoration of the Holy Innocents, those slaughtered on Herod’s order because he feared a child king. But th is day should also commemorate all those victimized, abused, neglected, and killed by those in power. Holy Innocents, unfortunately, are part of this world’s every waking minute.

Terror Unleashed
Outwitted, outmanoeuvred,
Herod unleashes terror.
Revenge, outraged, ventures out,
Unresisted, unrestrained.
Many are slaughtered to slay the One:
The One survives to save the many.

This question has probably been asked before, so bear with me and feel free to comment.
Epiphany, Jan. 6, is when we celebrate the arrival of the wise men and their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Being warned in a dream, they escaped for home by another route. Herod was so enraged he ordered the killing of all the children in and around Bethlehem who were 2 and under.
So why is Holy Innocents commemorated on 12/28 and not after Epiphany?

Just saw an ad for a Nativity Escape Room. I’m imagining a bunch of kids hiding in terror from armed soldiers intent on killing them.
Probably not what the creators envisioned.
