With things being what they are, I'm making more trips in to the office, and decided that I wanted to build another set for my go-bag.
I'm still sussing parts, but I think this will come together too. One thing that I worked through was that the original mini mixer used quarter-inch TRS jacks so I had to use adapters for the 3/8 inputs and outputs. But I found a 3/8 inch jack mini mixer that I'm testing and it is going to make all that less complicated.
I did end up ordering different USB audio cards, and I'm having to send at least one of them back. Loud buzzing from one. The other works ok. Serves me right for changing. I'm sure I'll nail it down.
Happy to answer questions if anybody is curious about it. It's been very satisfying to have.

So to get it all together, USB cards into the computers. Splitters attached to that. Audio outs into individual channels on the mixer. Output from the Mixer into the earbud splitter set. And since I only needed the microphone for work calls, I routed the microphone from the earbud splitter straight to the Mic jack on the work computer splitter.
This gave me the ability to play music or media on the personal machine while still getting notifications and call rings on the work computer unhindered. And if I needed to take a call, I could either pause music on the personal computer or turn down that channel volume on the mixer.
Worked absolutely perfectly and gave me exactly what I wanted! And it has sat doing its thing, used almost daily on my office desk at home since.

Since being sent home for work during the beginning of the pandemic, one of the things that used to drive me nuts was the fact that I liked to listen to music or put on some media on my personal computer while working, and that meant having two headsets. One for work so I could take calls, and one for my personal computer. I'd have to switch back and forth.
So I got it in my head to solve that.
My first thought was to get a multi-point bluetooth headset, and while that is a pretty good option, it will only ever play one or the other audio, and there is not much control on which takes over.
I have a set of Sony earbuds that I've really liked that have great sound, good bass response, fit well, and block out noise. So I decided to build something around that.
I found a small 4 channel stereo audio mixer that worked pretty well. I got a pair of USB audio cards with TRRS output and a pair of TRRS to Out/Mic TRS splitters. I also got a TRRS to TRS Out/Mic splitter for the earbud end. 1/ #WFH #HomeAudio
Curious, does anyone here have suggestions for finding a sound system good for a living room in an apartment? Something I can connect both a computer and television too that will play music decently. It doesn't have to be fancy or anything, but I haven't looked for anything like this in so long I don't even know what to search for. Also needs manual controls rather than a touch screen. #audio #speakers #sound #HomeAudio

Are there some #hifi #homeaudio #stereo folks here? I have a turntable, I have powered (and bluetooth) speakers attached to it. I want something that makes it so I can play my records in at least one more room (or more at a later date). I have run ethernet and (got I'm old) telephone cables for networking, I no longer want to do this. So I want wireless. What am I buying?

I've heard about people being really annoyed that the #ChromecastAudio dongles were discontinued. Sounds like these devices from #WiiM are filling the gap.

Bah! Knocked one of the speaker boxes off my standing desk while measuring for new woofers. Shattered the veneer that fits over the back panel, unfortunately it’s on top of the box. The woofers are shot to shit, these are from ‘99 and the manufacturer used custom woofers soooo I can’t get replacements. I’d re-cone but there aren’t any direct replacement kits and I really don’t want to destroy one by accident and be unable to replace it. Also, all the glue is dry-rotted on the surround and spider anyway.
I could just buy 2 new sets but, whatever someone else can do cheaply, I can do for 4 times the cost and 8 times the hours. Also this keeps my brain engaged on something.
So we’re going to make a new matching set cause I do like the clean look of these and I need 4 of them in the end. Gonna get some hours in on the #shopbot after I finish the #cad. Need to figure out the best way to do the veneer as it looks like it has a back relief to make the corner. Build custom fixturing, break tools, mess up some wood, mess up *a lot* of wood.
So first we have to look at the original speakers and work backwards. Then work forwards and tweak the box design for new speaker elements. Design a crossover. Buy parts. Finish drawings, post tool-paths, fixture parts for milling, veneer, finishing, assemble, and testing.
I’ll keep this thread going for any project updates.
