Does anyone have any experience with battery storage without any personal energy generation? I'm considering getting one to charge whilst energy price is low/ better carbon intensity, but don't know if it's worth it... Got about 50 miles of charge from the sun today, plus a full tank of hot water and a fully charged battery in the attic which is currently powering the dishwasher, washing machine, and telly, among other things. #solar #EV #homebattery #microgeneration

Today is my #SolarHumpDay after all the retrofit energy improvements since moving in last spring including #Solar, #HomeBattery, insulation, low energy device and lighting the income from exporting spare energy has today exceeded the cost of imported electricity for the calendar year. Now to build up a kitty for next winter.
If anybody questions the ROI of home #retrofit my energy monthly direct debit has also reduced from £279 to £35 and that in the period of the worst energy price crisis.

Today my home #solar #microgeneration system hit a landmark: 2 megawatt-hours produced since installation last September. Also today I installed an Eddi, a gadget from myenergi.com which diverts any surplus production to heat my water, further reducing my reliance on the gas boiler.

(First, it prioritises charging my #homebattery. Then it charges my #EV. Then it heats my water. Only then will it export any surplus to the grid.)

This is all new to me but it looks promising.
36m² of photovoltaic cells on the roof and a beefy home battery.
The PV converter is totally RF quiet on the #hfbands in #hamradio. In use for 3 months.
The battery controller got pushed into service last week so it needs more testing but a first spin on HF does not reveal broadband noise.
Liberal amounts of #ferrite cores were applied everywhere in this installation.

Great January day for #solar. This morning the #homebattery got charged to 95%, done two loads of washing and now the #Zappi is diverting excess to #EV rather well.

I discovered a cool feature of our home battery system. Since our solar array and battery system is connected to the net, it knows the weather. So today it charged up the battery to 100% using both grid power and whatever meager power collected by the PVA array and is reserving it in case of power outages. They even label it as “Weather Guard”.

@suebeesley Interesting post, I like seeing stats. We have 4.2kW of #solarPV facing 200 degrees and a 10.4kWh #homebattery, our latitude is similar to yours.
December's stats;

Well, got the Myenergi, Foxess, Sony TV and Router add-ons running. Maybe leave the Solaredge one for another day. Looking good, although it doesn't look as if I can program the battery charge time from the add-on. That'll be a shame as I wanted to automate it based on solar prediction for the next day. I

Just installed #homeassistant on a micro pc using the generic x86 download. Apart from a bit of an issue getting an EFI boot entry setup, using Mint live allowed me to sort this, all seems to be running ok. Now I need to get #Myenergi #Zappi, #Harvi, plus #Foxess #homebattery and #solaredge #inverter integrated. Be great to have everything on one display instead of 3 apps. #homeassistant seems to have found my TV and Router automatically so they are on the dashboard. Neat!

@AJ @ottocrat @suebeesley also good to see the wind has got up and providing a lot of power. Our recently fitted #homebattery system managed to power the whole house yesterday after a full chArge the night before. Today the solar has got it back up to 95% by lunchtime and now the #Zappi has kicked in and is now charging the car. Daytime units used since the battery was fitted 3 weeks ago has been zero!

Had our home battery fitted yesterday, 10.4kWh capacity. This completes our setup of 4.6kW of solar PV, Nissan Leaf EV, Zappi charge point and diverter (not an EDDI) for the hot water. Just below freezing outside but the solar is generating over 2kW, battery storing the excess, and so far 0 units of grid electricity used today!
