It's the end of the summer: #homeed work starts on Monday. Boy got a good mark in his Film Studies GCSE: added to Astronomy and Envt Mgmt, that's 3 in the bag at 14yrs of age.

This year, he'll be doing National 5s in Maths and English, and IGCSE Physics. We are excited about doing English within the Scottish system. I know nothing of the poet Norman MacCaig, who we'll be studying, and the portfolio work is very enlightened because he can choose what topic he writes on.

I am very much in the camp of chilled out, Que Sera Sera #homeEd. I have neither the time nor the energy to be one of those super-anxious, micro-managing home ed mums.

I just wish I didn't occasionally fall into the anxiety hole of believing the first way has let my children down, too late to do anything about it. Frankly, it taps into my pre-existing hangups, of the type, "My mother thinks I'm a lazy underachiever". But it's not true. I foster independence, and work plenty hard enough.

I got spooked by #homeEd mum one-upmanship, yesterday. Waiting outside the exam centre for our respective offspring to emerge from Psychology paper 2, I allowed a woman to convince me that I'd put up with a shit distance learning provider, that I should have been more hands-on about DS's learning (after I'd paid hundreds for someone else to do that?!) that only an idiot would have accepted the course notes instead of supplementing with a text book, and that I'd generally let him down.

Starting to think about next term (yes i know its Easter hols but when else is there time to think?) I have 17 (soon to be 20) children aged 4-10, mix of kindergarten & home ed. Re-looking at class 1-4 themes to see what can be incorporated.
