Just tried nance for the first time — an exotic (to me) fruit that I’d never heard of before last weekend. Update: I definitely don’t like nance. Glad as always to have tried a new thing, though!

Question, as I think about maintaining fruit tree varieties and possibly switching out within this, especially for my concern that in 20-30 years my hands won't work well enough to do grafting...
Will Air Layering work to propagate all varieties of fruit trees?
Kanko bai Ume boshi & waneta plums grafted so far today - both on St Julien & American plum rootstock plants.
After a little rest - I'm going to try to get the 3 Asian pear varieties grafted today - so I can get the Provence quince rootstock plants used & set aside - with the 2 other quince trees that I may well just plant in the front yard.
Okay so with 16 trees grafted in total- 2 when the root stock was in the ground & 14 not (I think the term is "bench grafted") I've an idea of basic pacing, namely, that each takes me about 10-15 minutes, even as I think I was increasing my speed as I went along.. I overall will need to allow for another 3 days to complete the rest of the 60 or so grafts.
The pacing and purpose for my overall going this " big" now is that my neuropathy is worsening
#HomeOrchard One of the things I've noticed is how many of the rootstock plants I've gotten are branched, even as some are not. My plan is to try to graft as many combinations as my research says should work together, as I can from this, using those branches whenever possible both in grafting to said branches and in letting them grow to fruit and cross pollinate the grafted variety(ies). Also as most of these trees will in part be used as natural fences, I do want them to grow as bushy/wide as
I juiced & pasteurized two liters worth of mandarins today. The mandarins still on the tree should hold quite a while longer even with the upcoming cold snap. #HomeOrchard #Fujifilm
@codedude “… one day…”, love it. Plant something your great-grandchildren may enjoy, it’s the philosophy of my backyard home #HomeOrchard and often in my thoughts as I accidentally on-purpose walk by and ignore yet another volunteer sapling.
