We have a beautiful, old tree which shades our yard wonderfully, but there's a catch: it grows hard, long, viciously sharp spikes on its trunk and branches.
Today while weeding I whacked my head into one of them hard enough to bleed, and a few minutes later whacked my hand into another, causing 3mm of the tip to break off INSIDE MY KNUCKLE.
I was eventually able to remove it with tweezers, but omg was that unpleasant.

Not sure if this is a or even a but there are quite a few around throughout the suburbs.

This one was growing in .

The two toned leaf colour is spectacular and has been displaying like this for around 6 weeks now.

The new growth presents as a light greeny/yellow - almost fluorescent when the sun is shining.

The lighter leaves turn the darker green slowly, as we’re seeing on most now. So this one must have been a late bloomer.

Gorgeous. 🍃

I believe this is a tree.

It is mostly found in the moist soil of river valleys of . Honey locust is highly adaptable to different environments, has been introduced worldwide, although it can be an aggressive, invasive species outside of its native setting.

is home to many, I’ve seen them in heaps of roundabout intersections. I’ve observed this tree over a month now, and it displays different shades of yellows, greens and burnt-orange, depending on the light and time of the day.

Sometimes it even appears fluorescent.

They can reach a height of 20–30 m (65–100 ft). They exhibit fast growth and live a life span of about 120 years, apparently.

It’s a beauty!

This is why I enjoy reading Haskell so much ... connecting the dots not just between species but across millennia.
