ls it reasonable to use Mx as an for someone whose you don't know? I mean, I can guess based on the first name, but that feels pretty ick to me. It feels like the more inclusive thing to do is go with the most general and let them correct me if they prefer? But that also feels like maybe not entirely respectful to people who genuinely prefer Mx? And possibly confusing to others?

Is there a better honorific that I'm not thinking of?

Amused to note on book supplier's website that while most authors simply have forename and surname listed, Steinbeck is listed as "Mr John Steinbeck" 😁 Loving the addition of "Mr"
