William Boyd had to change his name to Bill Boyd after another actor (mainly on Broadway, but was in some movies) that went by the name William "Broadway" Boyd was arrested on gambling charges.

Bill Boyd bought the rights to the HOPALONG CASSIDY name, and the ownership of the movies in 1948, for the price of $350,000.
