Despite all the bashing, beneficial botnets are a thing. Botnets

* fight cancer and COVID-19 (https://foldingathome.org/, https://invidious.fdn.fr/channel/UCtB0sKBvgQmgeLcqak0DysA),

* break weak ciphers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RC5),

* engage in political action with DDoS (too many to list),

and more. They're *also* a great way to measure the web, if you design em right.
