Several cabals within the Esoterium each have their own dark hunters - individuals dedicated to hunting the numerous Walks of Darkness that traverse the earth. Among these warriors, however, a select few are chosen from each organization to join the Order of the Night Catchers. This prestigious group is composed of the most lethal dark hunters drawn from the various clandestine factions within the Esoterium. 

Once they are inducted into the order, they undergo intensive training and learn secret combat arts to prepare for and embark on specialized missions. Their primary objective: to assassinate high-profile Walks of Darkness. Due to the sensitive and dangerous nature of their work, the identities of the members of the Order of the Night Catchers remain anonymous. This secrecy allows them to continue their vital mission of purging the world of powerful and influential dark entities.

"Tortuaries" are the machines by which Scream Eaters distill pain. These are nether-mechanical devices that can be the size of a large dresser to the size of a building. The Scream Eaters put their victims inside the machine to suffer unspeakable pain. To keep their victims alive longer, the Tortuaries often administer the "Limbo Elixer," which stops the soul from leaving the body. This way, the Scream Eaters can prolong their victim's anguish and feed longer. The Bolgia of Screams - the home of the Scream Eaters - is said to possess Tortuaries the size of cities.

Mr. Snaps is a tiny entity thought to be associated with the strange puppet deity situated in the Kinderman Woods. He is a small puppet that sometimes appears to people during the night, telling them about a "magical city" on strings or coercing them to follow him into the Kinderman Woods. He's also been known to tell people terrible secrets and to be the orchestrator of diabolical schemes. Some dark scholars believe he is an avatar of the puppet God- the Unbegotten of Manipulation.

Umbriael, the Angel of Restless Shadows, can be seen in the city of Nighthead as various statues of her punctuate the city. Many nocturnalists claim to have seen the dark angel in their dreams, showing them glimpses of the "First darkness" and visions of the legendary city beneath Nighthead - Unduur. However, it is unknown if Umbriael is a servitor of Sathoniss (the Unbegotten of Darkness) or is an agent unto herself. Some claim to have seen her in various parts of Nighthead, such as the Pyramid of Nox. Scholars believe she is part of a choir of angels they call the "Noctrait," as these entities only appeared after the Great Darkness of 1999.

Strange structures made from bones and enlarged skulls were discovered after the Great Darkness of 1999. However, while the outsides of the building were bizarre, their interiors were equally so. There could be hundreds of bottles full of human fluids - blood, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid - all on display as if they were served in the same fashion as fine wines or liquors. For this reason, the obscuruum came to be known as "Corpse Taverns." Of course, like most obscuruum, the purpose of these "establishments" are unknown, although the implications are grisly.

The Night Show is an urban legend about an other-worldly TV show that is broadcast only under the most bizarre of circumstances. Like similar myths, a ritual, of sorts, is required to attain the desired effect. In the Night Show's case, one must acquire a vintage TV and place it in the basement of a haunted house. At exactly 3:21 a.m., the TV is said to spontaneously turn on and display a ghastly variety show from a darker dimension of reality. The program is said to be so disturbing as to drive the watcher (or watchers) mad. There have been various reports, some substantiated, of people supposedly viewing the fabled Night Show and subsequently being admitted into local mental wards. In some cases, the people are never seen again.

Widespread poverty and waning funds for small municipalities became a significant problem after the Great Darkness of 1999. Consequently, the homeless and the poor gathered in large communities often called "Gutter Towns" and "Sod Cities." While impoverished, these towns are under the protection of an enigmatic figure known as the "Squatter King." Hailed as the "Avenger of the Poor," the Squatter King has been known to hunt and punish wealthy tycoons who have wronged the underprivileged. In one such example, he stalked Titus Gilfinger, the CEO of a chemicals supply company, who had authorized the pollution of a Gutter Town's water supply. While there were few legal ramifications for the magnate, he was eventually found hanging in his mansion, his insides replaced by burning $100 bills. While no one has ever identified the Squatter King, his work is unmistakable.

In the rural parts of the world, various traditions and customs developed after the Great Darkness of 1999. Specifically, different dark beliefs became common in the farmlands of America and other agricultural nations. One of these superstitions included the curse of the Witherman. The Witherman is a rural spirit summoned by angry farmers to blight their rival's crops. To facilitate this, farmers would construct a "Witherman" - which looks like a scarecrow stuffed with dead birds, bugs, and other vermin - and then place it in the rival farmer's pastures or fields. One famous instance in 2013 involved a union of angry farmers planting hundreds of Withermen in the fields of a large corporate farm as an act against big agriculture. While many consider it a coincidence, the corporate farm eventually went bankrupt due to a particularly aggressive blight.

In the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks mountains of Ireland, the giant "Throne of Maelor" sits. The throne was called "Maelor" for "Maelor Gawr" - a Celtic king and giant of Welsh Mythology. Like many such artifacts, the throne appeared only after the Great Darkness.

After the Great Darkness, various physical phenomena were discovered that puzzled scientists—some of which involved temporal anomalies. For instance, hundreds of mummified remains were unearthed and determined to be thousands of years old according to carbon dating methods. However, forensic analysis revealed that these sarcophagi belonged to individuals who were alive just before the onset of the Darkness. To account for this paradox, some have speculated that the Great Darkness involved a major temporal event, where time accelerated in some areas and decelerated in others. However, there is no hard evidence to substantiate this theory, so the bodies remain a well-known post-noctum mystery.

Upon the conclusion of the Great Darkness of 1999, there was a kind of supernaturalism renaissance. As such, multiple movements, technologies, religions, and philosophies were born from the wreckage. The tools used by parapsychologists and psychics were no exception. Thought to have been created by the Heccans, the Harrow Box is an ornate container possessing multiple drawers with a Ouija board (the pre-Darkness version of a "Divining Board") embedded on its surface. The drawers are often filled with objects associated with lost loved ones to strengthen the connection between the user and the sought-out spirit. These boxes were predominantly utilized by "corpse hunters" who were paid by affluent families to find their deceased relatives during the "Great Wasting" period.

Batna is the Matriarch of the Carnivean. She is the daughter of Carnivean himself - the first of his kind. After her father's death, she swore vengeance upon her creator and the Maelenjiin itself. She has chased her quarry - the Nasool - across the cosmos, devouring worlds as she goes. Her appearance greatly varies - she can be hundreds of feet tall brimming with devouring mouths, teeth, claws, and a host of other appendages, or she can appear as a ghastly demonic woman. Like all carnivean, she is host to the everlasting hunger, and has devoured and resurged thousands of creatures, both terrestrial and alien. She even weilds the mythical Grey Flame - a legendary fire thought to possess an endless appetite, devouring everything it touches.

The "No Faces" are supernatural entities said to exist in the small town of King's House, Nova Scotia. Legend has it that any encounter with the beings leads to eventual memory loss of the event. Some claim to have written down or recorded their experiences, but any record of it mysteriously disappears along with their memory of the encounter. It's said that the only way to record an encounter with the devious things is to etch it in stone. The No Faces are also rumored to be able to replace memories with false ones, or even transplant the memories of one person into another. There seems to be no logical explanation for why they do this. Lastly, there is a rumored place in town that these memory stealing entities supposedly reside, although, no one can remember where it is. Thus, it has been dubbed "Neverwas."

Since the West Brook Massacre in 2003 (which saw multiple Ravelynn professors slain) and the Nighthead Church Killings in 2006, the notorious gun at the center of both mass murders has been surrounded with both infamy and dark mystique. Lucifer's Revolver, as the murder weapon has come to be known, is one of the most well know Post-Darkness artifacts in existence. But is it really a true Obscurum? Rumors abound that the gun was used in other murders before the Great Darkness of 1999, being passed from one owner to the next.
The gun, which is currently on display at the September Museum in Autumn City, is made from an unknown metal and can, according to its previous two owners, influence its handlers to kill.
