In the late '70s, we had a family member who had property at the far west end of Red Bank Road in #Tehama county. He knew someone who lived on land that was entirely off-grid, there. Everything that wasn't basic mechanical work was fun by propane. He kept our sheep and cattle for us in the winter, and in the spring, he castrated the #sheep in the old-fashioned #Basque way, because he was an old-fashioned Basque man. It was quite a thing to be part of, and my favorite part was wandering around the hills of #Tehama #County on my own, except that I was on #horseback, and you are and never alone with a good #horse, hoping to bring the #cattle down from the #hills.

Went for a lovely #horseback ride today instead of #BlackFriday shopping. A good way to #OptOut and spend time outside. AJ was a bit conflicted - he both wanted to run everywhere AND just turn around and go home. But it was still nice to get out and in the saddle. I even did a bit of bareback on the driveway afterwards.
