Deplorably low turnout for Democratic primaries has led us to our current situation and high voter turnout is the democratic way out of it, but for a variety of reasons the #HorseshoeTheory seems to be playing out sadly.

I've got my fingers crossed for the next few election cycles and am psyched after the voting in #Ohio yesterday.

In order to defeat fascism, we can't let the "perfect" get in the way of the good.

Yeah, I'm not calling for abolishing flying. That's authoritarian #HorseshoeTheory type crap.

I'm asking for people that care about the #ClimateCrisis to choose not to fly as part of their efforts to quickly reduce their carbon footprints.

Private jets are horrible, although one's carbon shadow can make it okay for someone like John Kerry to use his to fly back and forth to get China to lower emissions, but I digress.

Calling for banning stuff is how the #HorseshoeTheory takes hold and makes the far-left start to adopt far-right policies. Democratic republics can't ban stuff very readily and the political backlash can cause more harm than did the short-term gain.

The far left is for #humanrights and community and the far right are proud boys, nazis and religious fundamentalists. Nothing alike. I absolutely hate that argument for centrism bc it's a lie. #Centrism defends the inequalities that exist now - rights are pie - there's nothing reasonable, civil, or fair about the moderate center.

Neophytes to the subject want to find an easy answer so they don't have to trouble themselves with the hard work of finding actual solutions so they jump on bandwagons like "It's all capitalism's fault".

It's a common thread throughout history and helps explain why the #HorseshoeTheory so often comes true.

I see a post like this and i worry what role I may have played in making the #HorseshoeTheory play out among so many people that care about our environment

When I started working to get #ClimateAction there weren't many of us so we had to not turn people away from accepting our climate science by making them feel guilty by pointing out the nefarious actions of the fossil fuel industry and the politicians in their pockets

It was correct approach, but we may have kept it up too long, I fear.

Yeah, that fucking #HorseshoeTheory seems to be more and more apropos every day it seems.

I'm not trying to make an assertion that he's acting to empower the far-right on purpose, but I am saying that we need to keep open to that possibility and at the very least to question his judgement if not his motives

There's no easy answer on how we can start to have useful debates on how we can shift the Overton Window back towards the left, but we can start by not helping out the far right

Idealism instead of pragmatism along with compromise will lead directly to authoritarianism imo anyways, but of course everyone is entitled to their opinion until they step on the rights of others.

Illa's statement is stupid to me since he is sending the signal that Ukrainians are ungrateful for the help that the USA has provided them.

Us liberals would be wise to heed this advice, but regrettably we're noted for our independent thinking, which is not so effective in a two-party dominated political system.

Here is a good example on why the #HorseshoeTheory is advancing so quickly among American leftists lately.

A big part of the reason we're in the mess we're in in the USA is that despite our constitution making Congress the most powerful branch of government (because democracy is better than the alternatives) the executive branch has been expanding its power unrestricted since the battle at Chosin Reservoir and Congress has abdicated its role to check it.

Much better than the original #horseshoetheory. We should be able to get at least 3-4 papers out of this #politicalscience
