Now we have cows from the neighbor to the South of us. At least they are in the southwest pasture. Rio is enjoying the company. In the first picture he is nose to nose with a calf. I think he likes having friends.

🐴 It's still around 100F nearly every day here, but The Princess Herself is darkening with winter hair growth. Go figure. Can I at least hope she knows something I don't?? Typically this does not start until after fall equinox. 🤷‍♀️

Today was the first of three hay days. 50 bales delivered and tucked into brand new hay shelter, mostly by me. Feels so good to know I can get all the hay I need for my horses for the winter and not have to scramble after last year's drought. This guy is awesome and I'm hoping he can become a regular supplier.

I like how the herd will occasionally stand next to Thunder's pen and often there's at least one horse next to him, even Holly the lowest ranking horse in the herd and who Thunder has been pushy toward keeps him company. I'm sure they know he's fine (hoof abscess, we're just keeping him confined until it clears) and in good hands, and yet they're including him in herd dynamics.

We should strive to be like the herd.

Heute Patrouillenritt mit Pferd. Das ist eine Art Postenlauf, wo man zu zweit eine Route von 2-3h reitet und zwischendurch verschiedene Geschicklichkeitsaufgaben macht.
Hier zum Beispiel diesen Korb an Seilen zu zweit halten, und damit verschiedene Sachen sammeln die auf dem Platz verteilt zu holen sind.

In the last few days, donkey Kwiatek and pony Trotsky spent a lot of time together.

They were standing closely next to each other and even eating together. Normally Trotsky shoos him away and Kwiatek is overall not comfortable standing too close to the horses.

But just look at how well they‘re doing together ☺️

Funny thing is he struck me hard but right in the pocket where I had my phone. The phone took much of the impact and is completely destroyed. I on the other hand have a rectangular phone-shaped bruise instead of a broken leg. Apple took a bullet for me today. #horsesofmastodon
