Short day today as we've got a bunch of errands to run this afternoon. Also: only 6 more days until I start work! Yikes! Really hoping to power through the Praetor and Land Raider before next Monday.

I will say that getting to focus on just one model has been refreshing. I really pushed on the backside so I can attach his backpack/cape - doing the same for his right side as well so his arm can go on. All that should make it easier to finish the highlights.

Working painting some Iron Havocs for a 1000pt teaching game on Thursday. I did have to downgrade my list because I realized I was turning up in beast mode! Replaced the Scorpius with a Sky-Hunter Squadron for a little variety.

It's Smash Praetor time! I converted this fella up with some bits from Pop Goes the Monkey - it's not a fabulous conversion but some green stuff did an adequate job of hiding the joins between the hands and the hammer/shield.

Anyway: managed to get all the base colors down (Abaddon Black, Dryad Brown, Khorne Red, Mech Gray for future white areas). This guy has a lot of filigree on his armor which will end up gold, so taking my time here should pay off.

Big progress today! Did a lot of highlighting, so there's lots of pictures because this is where models get interesting. Prepare for a multi-part toot!

I started off early this morning getting what I dread the most done: the first edge lining of gray on black [1]. Over the years I've gotten marginally better at this, but it's *still* the hardest color for me to edge line as any mistake is super noticeable. First up: Mechanicus Standard Gray.

Made some good progress today, but still feeling behind. 😅

Got all base colors/washes done on the Support Squad - including eye lenses, metals, and more. Now that I'm messing around with chevrons, I'm clearly fiddling with the Knight's missile pod at this point: I may pivot from it and leave it alone given how much work is left on the Land Raider and HQ.

Next step is to start edge lining the support squad! Undersuits are my nemesis.

T-25 days to #horusheresy throwdown

Another short day today. Going to have to try to catch up tomorrow - only have another 10 days before I start back up at work, and I expect I'm going to be super busy from then until the Horus Heresy event.

I did manage to finish Leadbelcher on the rest of the bodies (x6) and started the backpacks (x4). In between, got the eyes and helmet locks painted Abaddon Black; laid down Black Templar on the faces; and cleaned up the metallic fringe on the pod.

Short day today - had vehicular errands, aka, the car wouldn't start 😅.

Did a second coat of red on the gun casings and hit the small wires on the bodies/heads. Since that got a bit messy in places, I re-applied a bit of black, before starting Leadbelcher on the metal parts, including the shoulder rivets. Managed to power through 4 before dinner!

In between, got some quick red/yellow on the missile pod for the Knight.

Long day of painting today. Not sure the figurines show that time investment, but I still felt like the time was well spent.

Got Abaddon Black fully done across all 10 support squad fellas, painted all leather pouches Dryad Bark, and painted the casing on the flamers Khorne Red.

In between as a palette cleanser, did a bit of large black areas on the Land Raider Spartan and an oil wash on the Knight rocked pod.

Got Abaddon black blocked in on the 10 support squad folks and "cleaned up" on 4 of them. That basically means: I used a cheap synthetic brush to slap black on the larger areas (x10), then switched to a good brush and carefully lay down the black close to the areas that needed to remain green. There's a few fiddly areas on the MK6 marines - particularly between the upper thigh and crotch - and it's really hard to correct mistakes with this approach.

Spartan, Praetor, Champion, and Support Squad are now totally green! This was a two pass with an airbrush - first with Cassandra Shade; second with Warp Lightning contrast. This is basically Juan Hidalgo's [1] method for Salamanders, although because contrast tends to lose some of the volumetric shading, I go with the shade first to keep more of the black intact for the Warp Lightning.

Super excited - signed up for a massive #horusheresy game on 9/30! I won't quite have 3k points to bring (list in subsequent post), but the organizers seem willing to move points around as needed. Anyway - it will be my first post-pandemic game (nearly 4 years!) and the first outing for my #salamanders30k. Super stoked.

Timing really couldn't be better: I'm between jobs (9/18 being the new start date), so have lots of time to power through the backlog.
