Holy moley. While digging into why #hostgator is so terrible for web hosting, I discovered that it's owned by a massive organization called EIG that has bought up what seems like most of the shared web hosters out there. đź‘€

@ariadne Yup. After changing IP addresses and flushing cache, I now get to stare at this endless loop:
I'm helping a non-profit get their IT in better shape and they host at #hostgator.
Their site goes down constantly and now when I try to access their cPanel to see if something's wrong, I'm apparently banned from accessing it:
Wow, hostgator just tripled the cost of hosting my domain for 3 years to over $500. I have no website, just the domain and 2 webmails and mail redirect. I am awaiting an offer to reduce that.
Any suggestions as to alternatives if I have to leave?
@joepie91 @kelbot @freakazoid #Consolidation and #enshittification has been happening all over the #WebHosting and #domain market. For example, all of the following are just brands of #NewfoldDigital:
#Bluehost
Web.com
#NetworkSolutions (original pre-#ICANN gTLD monopoly)
#HostGator (where I worked)
Register.com
Domain.com
#CrazyDomains
#Markmonitor
#ResellerClub
#iPage
#BigRock
#SiteBuilder
#Vodien
#Yoast
#Yith
#BuyDomains
#SnapNames
#NameJet
#Freeparking…

After doing some research for a static site generator, I found that #ghost is easy to setup and very intuitive to use. The UI is like a very slimmed down version of #wordpress.
I realize that ghost has a database back-end and isn't really a "static site" generator per-se. However, it can easily generate static content and allows for multiple authors.
When I'm ready to convert my websites away from #hostgator and on to a VPS, I will most likely use ghost.
That one time #HostGator offered me $9/hour to do #systemadmin
I vaguely remember the guy interviewing me was wearing sandals. LOL reading my old notes from 2013.
I'm convinced that all the support people at #HostGator are really the same badly written AI.
#HostGator support is utterly worthless. On my third try with support chat, after I explained in detail why the issue couldn't be my IP address, the person agreed to escalate to a support ticket. I just got the response to the ticket a little while ago. They're telling me it's ... my IP address, without even acknowledging my explanation of why it can't be. I'm moving my email hosting tomorrow, when I've got a bit of free time.
#HostGator has been blocking my outgoing mail since Wednesday and won't even admit it. Currently looking at #Zoho Mail for a replacement. I can still use webmail till HostGator remembers to break it, so I'll wait a couple of days till I can afford a slight disruption in my email.
Currently most email that I try to send from mcgath.com is bouncing; it appears my domain has been blacklisted. I tried finding out with online support from #HostGator and got answers from a total idiot. This moron told me my IP address is on the Spamhaus policy blocklist (of course it is, that just means I can't run my own SMTP) and that I should contact my ISP (HostGator *IS* my ISP). Don't know how I'll resolve this.
Or you could be #HostGator and not even use SSL on the cpanel login page...
@BleepingComputer @barubary FFFFFuuuuuuuu… (checks in on former #HostGator and #Bluehost colleagues)
Sigh, #HostGator is determined to make me wait the full five days before releasing my domain transfer to @cloudflare
I'm using #HostGator @hostgator for web #hosting and it's time to change, after so many years their prices always goes up for existing customers.
I'm using their baby plan, and they are asking for renewal over $10.95 a month before tax.
Is anyone of you have a recommended #webhosting services and have good experience with them?
majority of the content is photos from #MySQL DB, fast, ability to have multiple #website unlimited bandwidth, etc. nothing special

What the #fediverse needs is a Wordpress-like experience to setup your own social microblog. Why is #Wordpress the most deployed platform? Simplicity and ease... #LAMP is still a thing.
So many hosters can offer it on top of a shared hosted environment. Sure, I hear you say #containers, but that is not how #hostgator, #dreamhost and a ton of others work.

@leandro @ademalsasa I find that #Yunohost hosts my mail remarkably reliably. Or at least it's been super reliable since I moved from super sketchy #Hostgator where all the IP's seem to have been used by spammers, and over to an awesome, privacy loving, green energy host whose IP range all seem clean.
I host my websites with #hostgator. Recently, my outgoing emails don't ever reach the recipient. There is no error, no bounce back, it seems as if it went through. I sent my personal email account a test email from my domain last night and I still haven't received it. Support at #hostgator says it is because my email signature has a phone number in it (it always has) and this is why some SPF rule is blocking my emails. Sounds like BS.
I would love your input and hosting suggestions.
