Hosting your own server at home, is that something worth doing?

Ok, the cost is not free either at home or on a web hotell but is there some good web resources to point me to where they covers everything from spliting up the network to what you need to have from your internet provider.

Because indiepocalypse.social is so new and because we have so few members, I am currently paying hosting costs out of pocket monthly.

As / if we grow - or if I personally receive some push to, I'll figure out a way of accepting donations to pay toward hosting and other site-related functionality like custom emoji.
