Second house offer failed. We were competitive with all of the other offers except 1, which was 20%+ over list and had a full appraisal gap.

being a literalist comes with some advantages.

if you tell me you've got a deadline for documents that would be difficult for me to meet, my response isn't going to be to rush - it's going to thank you and move on. i'm not about to get emotionally invested in an opaque process, especially if i feel like i'm being jerked around.

I had a somewhat frustrating, somewhat energising work day, my mum came to visit for the weekend, my toddler had Big Feelings and alternated sensory overload and hyperactivity, they told us about something at nursery which I am not happy about (but need to verify before launching into That Parent mode), we ate wok veg and tofu with homemade satay sauce, and talked , again.

House for sale viewed this week: 1950s ranch house with weird, possibly extra-dimensional floor plan.

Included one "closet" door that opened to reveal three cinder-block steps down, in a house with no basement. Down the steps, a narrow hall turned sharply right, leading into a small cinder-block room with storage shelves ...

... yes, it was a genuine Cold War-era fallout shelter. It would have made a nice tornado shelter, if the rest of the house weren't gently decaying.

Attempting to adjust my wake up time ready for starting the new job next week, and I'm exhausted. We're viewing another house today, fingers crossed we get to move soon. House hunting is so stressful in the current climate and I am NOT looking forward to the 2 hour commute until we find somewhere closer.

Trying to find a place to rent near my new job is extremely frustrating. Because of high demand, letting agents require more information upfront, which is fine, until it isn't. One agent wants a full application form completed as well as 6 months full bank statements, which they will keep for at least 6 years, JUST TO GET A VIEWING. That seems like an unnecessary and unreasonable request to me... ?
