And we’ve adopted a pair of #HouseRabbits!
In general, I really love being a parent. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m old enough to let the little shit go and enjoy the fun parts. The getting pets part? SO FUN.
These rabbits are our kid’s pets. He was obsessed with the idea for long enough, and he did the hard work of getting his room ready, so we set out to get rabbits. I got them from a local rescue, and I’m very proud that I’m so hashtag-adult that rescues will give me animals now.
They’re a bonded pair of spayed adult does, and they’re used to humans.
Our kid really wanted a Sebastian, and the black rabbit spoke to him as a Sebastian, so we’ve transed them. The grey is Haze.
I’m not sure how I feel about this, tbqh. Is it okay to just change the gender label you use for a pet?? Rabbits don’t care about gender, but they’re also rabbits, not humans. Being a he-bunny is not really comparable to living as a trans man! I am definitely overthinking something that only the vet will ever find relevant!
They’re very cute. They’re shedding, but not comfortable being touched yet, and it takes a lot of self control to not just go to town on Sebastian with a slicker brush. Rabbits are as adorable as you think. They spend a lot of time grooming themselves. They’re hilariously rude to each other, just shoving right into the other’s space and grabbing the food and hopping away with it. Our garden has *so many* foods that are safe for bunnies! The kid is getting the thrill of feeding his pets from the garden and I’m so happy for him.

Our vegetable garden has reached the point where we can start harvesting sustainably from it for the bunnies' dinner each evening. Matilda's favorite is the parsley we're growing; Chuck's favorite is the oregano.
