Ended up watching the House of Representatives finally finish voting in Kevin McCarthy at 1 am only to see Hakim Jeffries give basically the best political speech I have ever seen. Interesting to see the WSJ live feed cut out the minute McCarthy started speaking! Watching the speaker wars unfold is oddly unsettling. In order I hope for

- Hakeem Jeffries to get the speaker spot!!
- A coalition to form with some dem support
- McCarthy acquiesces and turmoil ensues

I have no love for those holding our democracy hostage but feel some satisfaction that this disaster was brought on by weak decisions being made by weak people.

After losing the #SpeakerOfTheHouse vote EIGHT times, #GOP leader McCarthy has accrued just 1,613 votes. That's 83 less than #Democrat leader Jeffries' 1,696 votes.
