Been in the "Highlands" of #Lithuania today, looking at a homestead near Utena, with direct access to a lake and river (complete with dam building beavers and the obligatory stork's nest).
The location was amazing, the house had a new roof and insulated windows but sadly also an infestation of wood boring beetles and the laser level revealed that the foundation was slowly sliding down the hill, so that's a nope.
But the area sure is pretty! We might be back 😉

This particular homestead in the Ignalinos region (yup, the one with the shut down RBMK reactor) isn't on our radar, but look at how pretty the location is!

One of the options we're looking at is buying an old log house and fixing it up.
Here's a good example of what that would look like. This one's from 1953, taken back to the bare bones inside, new double-glazed windows fitted, floors dug out and sewage pipes installed, ready for a new floor.
These usually have few structural interior walls, so you can change the layout with relative freedom. This example has one.

The more I read about house ownership and building regulations, the more confused I get. :blobcatgoogly2:
Charming plot by the lakeside, asphalt road access, electricity supply, municipial water (bad, I'd rather have my own well).
Don't mind the massive overground gas pipeline splitting the plot in half, which is impossible to pass on foot or by vehicle.
Of course the broker entirely neglects to mention this in the description.
@yngmar
The inside may be spacier than it seems. By window multiplication and dimensional stretching.

I'm not even sure what this is, but I do like it.
Perhaps a very fancy outdoor toilet.

Lovely looking spot, but perhaps too close to the border.
"The homestead is located next to the forest, in a picturesque location, 150 meters from the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. Permanent neighbors"
I was hoping Lukashenko isn't permanent? :think_bread:
I do not understand why “virtual tours” of houses listed for sale are simply slide shows of the available pictures. I incorrectly assumed it meant a 3D tour of the house. i.e. You could walk the camera through the front door, down the hall, into the rooms.
