10 min staring blankly at screen

5 minutes asking our #housesitting cat overlord Miss Smudge if she's ever going to move off our copies of our new novel, OverLondon so I can mail them.

30 seconds returning Miss Smudge's blinky-eyed look of "No" with a blinky eyed "Please?"

1 minute patting Miss Smudge when I lose argument.

30 seconds thinking "I need more tea."

As a frequent house sitter, I can attest to the quirky housing stock.
At each new house sitting gig, I ask the owner to show me how they unlock and open their front door, along with other seemingly odd but necessary questions.

Doggoes have had their treat, the birbs have been watered and fed, I've vacuumed, mopped, wiped down surfaces, taken out the recycling and garbage, and packed my things. #housesitting

I am currently drinking my 5th cup of tea of the morning.

Some time around 2am last night, our current #housesitting overlord #dog Aka the hairy potato-who-only-turns-right decided he was going to have a dream.

It was an epic dream. That we are positive included chasing woolly mammoths over ancient steppes and getting a good nibble on their hind parts before triumphantly woofing, barking and generally telling all the other proto-potatoes that he was the mightiest potato in the world.

How do we know this? Because we were woken by a 20 minute performance that involved a small brick-shaped dog laying on his back, his little legs running in the air as he emitted continuous tiny woop woop noises before howling majestically.

20 minutes. We tried to wake him up but he wasn't having it. That mammoth was going to be caught and he was going to eat it.

He is not a beastie that normally makes noise. Usually relying on long mind-control stares and the odd huff, long groan or sigh to express emotion. But last night we discovered what we now believe to be the source of all his eccentricity.

He's really a reincarnated sabre toothed potato, which undoubtedly only turned right and smelled alluringly horrendous for all the other potatoes on the plains. After spending 3 weeks in this dog's company, it honestly is the only rational explanation.

The saga continues.

Today left-hand only turning #housesitting #dog AKA the furry potato was walking his temporary human in #Berlin when he experienced an epic (for him) transformation.

His tail wagged and his ears perked up as he suddenly veered (to the right) towards the object of his affection standing on a street corner...The only person in the vicinity openly and very obviously dealing interesting substances.

If anyone wants to know how to diffuse a situation where an irate dealer is startled by a small dog to the point of dropping his goods onto the ground... wherein the small dog tries to gobble the little plastic bag full of white stuff... I have just levelled up a new skill.😂

If anyone spotted a half-pint human lecturing an equally half-pint dog about "Just saying no" near Warschauer Straße this afternoon... that was us. 😬 😂

Today right-hand-turning-only house sitting German #dog had a bath.

He did not want a bath.

He had a bath because despite being a very very small brick-shaped furry potato, on day 3 after his previous bath and tooth brush he starts to emit a stench that can only be comparable to the flatulence emitted by a stegosaurus who has been going hard on baked beans with extra beans. It's tangible. It lingers.

While having the bath, he emitted a long, low--and above all continuous--groan. The kind you imagine a coffin lid making as it opens to emit all the horrors within, as he did with his breath weapon until the doggie toothbrush was deployed. The groan continued through the tooth brushing. Indeed the groan continued until he realized I wasn't paying attention anymore and then changed to a disgruntled sigh that continued until I administered the towel to his soggy self.

Then then when he got out of the bath, instead of shaking off the water, he looked expectantly at the hair dryer as if to say "Groom me minion".

All was forgiven however, when he was then let onto the balcony to eyeball his nemesis, a very rotund Berliner pigeon who is conveniently far enough away not to beat him up, but close enough that he can convince all onlookers that he would win a battle if it came to it. (He wouldn't.)

The saga continues.

The stench shall return.

Dear Diary. Day three in Switzerland as governess to two fluffy #bunnies and a deviously fluffy #cat

The dingle dangle of the cow bells echoing through the hills surrounding this village haunts me at night. (What bovine cud-chewing, delicious-full-cream-milk horror do they portend?!)

The bunnies are incessantly hungry and fluffy that I worry there is a fluffy-hungry correlation that will escalate to bloodlust tomorrow on Easter Sunday.

And the cat... Yes, I almost cannot bear to say it, but I suspect she is, indeed, a squirrel demon sent from the distant mountains to seek out the nuts of unsuspecting strangers!

As the sun rises, I must remain vigilant and not be lulled into a false sense of security by this connivingly delicious Swiss Yoghurt!

Who knows what fluffy snuggly horrors this day may bring!

This is Emmy my current house sit cat. She doesn’t see very well at all & is a little timid but such a sweetie. She likes to have a wander in the small backyard here which is a very safe area for her. #catsofmastodon #housesitting

Slept in my own bed for the first time in more than 3 weeks. Honestly, the sleep quality wasn’t any better or worse, and I didn’t sleep any more or less. But it was nice waking up without having to jump out of bed right away to make sure a little life is fed and happy. I’m off again tomorrow for 2 weeks. It will be interesting to see if this streak continues.
