August 8, 1974. I was the Desk Assistant for anchor Howard K. Smith at ABC News in Washington, D.C. I am handing Mr. Smith the script for the evening's broadcast reporting the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon. It was my job to distribute the scripts in the newsroom. Had the foresight to ask a colleague who happened to have her still camera with her to snap the historic photo.
