Scary, scary!
Nice chap. Met him circa 2014 or 2015 at #HPE Discover in Las Vegas when he raced for Virgin Formula E Racing. He spoke to us geeks pleasantly, politely.
I am genuinely glad that he is okay. https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a44551826/formula-es-sam-bird-walks-away-from-harrowing-t-bone-crash/

On the new platform of #AMEE, we discussed how to use Mastodon more effectively for topics related to #meded and #hpe. Therefore, I started a group. Just use @healthprofessionseducation in the Toot, it will be forwarded to everyone following that account. The AMEE platform needs registration and parts are at present members only: https://amee.org/AMEE/Cantarus/CantarusSignIn.aspx
Don't worry though, I stuck with the RAID-z2. 🤣
I am intending to put this system pretty far from me so I am doing my best to ensure I can manage it completely remotely.
The people there will be able to replace drives (I replaced the drive caddy's Torx screws with Phillips to make that easier) but I don't want to have to rely on any other help.

Setting up an HPE MicroServer Gen8 for offsite backup use (meaning I will physically locate this box offsite and I will replicate to it from my prod storage).
I always use RAID 6/RAID-z2 for my storage systems, so the 4x 14TB Seagate Exos X16 drives would leave me with 25 TB.
I don't usually use such large capacity drives, so the jump to 38 TB raw capacity that comes with RAID-z is a bit more tempting than usual. 😬
And it's a backup appliance too... 😅

“The tails matter”, I did feel the emotion of Lara Varpio about this paper https://podcasts.apple.com/nl/podcast/the-papers-podcast/id1668796306?i=1000604022417 if even Lara would not qualify under this EPA for researchers in health professions education (HPE), who does? #meded #standardization #phd #HPE

Before I leave for the weekend, I have a question for the #sysadmin types around here:
I'm struggling to install #OPNSense 23.1 (derived from #FreeBSD 13.1) on a #HPE server using iLO virtual media (via the java console).
All attempts to boot the installer fail while mounting the RootFS with a read error on the virtual USB mass device, it feels like the USB controller just stops responding.
Trying a bare FreeBSD 13.1 memstick fails the same way
When booting an OPNSense system installed via a bunch of dirty workarounds (recreating the partition scheme of the usb stick on the actual system disk using a live linux ISO, then dumping the losetup-ed partitions one by one onto that), sometimes my iLO virtual keyboard croaks (getting USB hub timeouts), without even attempting to use virtual media.
So, has anyone used recent HPE servers with #FreeBSD? And succeeded using iLO virtual console/virtual media

Turns out my #VMWare ESXi server suffered a RAID Array Controller failure, so called out to #HPE and they'll send a tech and a new controller, should see them within four hours.
The only really needful thing on that VMWare box was a #Ubuntu VM running a plain-jane Port 25 Open Email Relay. It's needed because #Canon equipment doesn't understand SSL, TLS, or Authentication, so this way, it's simpler.
