Wer kommt mit zum Schneemann-Bauen auf den Mars?! 🔴⛄ Mit Laser-Höhenmessungen konnte jetzt berechnet werden, dass die Eisdecke auf dem "roten Planeten" bis zu 4 m hoch ist. ❄ Dafür wird der Atmosphäre fast ein Drittel des #CO2 entzogen.

Die Messwerte basieren auf ca. 600 Mio. Laserpulsen & 8000 Laserprofilen aus dem Verlauf eines #Mars-Jahres. 📈 Für die Untersuchungen kooperieren Forschungseinrichtungen aus #Europa, #USA, #Japan & #China.

I just joined the #HRSC camera team of the #marsexpress mission recently, as part of my joining the #FreieUniversitätBerlin . So we just had an instrument team meeting, my first one, and I’m quite sad that it might have been one of the last meetings. Because apparently @esa@birb.elfenban.de and @dlr want to end the mission and the science operations of the #HRSC camera next year, despite it producing excellent data still. #mars #planetaryscience
